49. Building the JGR Kansai Division: Introduction
Hi, Thank you for sharing What exactly Modell of Steam Train is there running?
I have a Broadway limited streamline HOK4, but I can’t turn the smoke off even when I hit the switch manually to off it still smokes. What can I do to get the smoke off?
Once you get Digitrax figured out, you are usually good to go, but the instructions are shite. It would be great if they would provide videos for exactly how things should go, which are pretty simple, but you have to figure it out.
Hello, I am wanting to connect rc servo motors to the ds64 that have 3 wires, could you tell me how I should connect them? Thank you very much and very interesting video!
I bought both SCARM and Anyrail. First I tried SCARM. I tried for thre days, just couldn't grasp it ( no geaometry or algebra in school). I then tried Anyrail. I was up and designing my layout in about 30 minutes after watching a couple Anyrail tuorials. Anyrail is so much more user friendly.
Get rid of the music.
👍
Very good tutorial. I have a stupid question maybe. The 3D view shows a green roadbed but styrofoam is white. Is the styrofoam covered in felt? I’m trying to decide if I should use felt over my Homasote. Thank you
SCARM's default covering is green, it doesn't reflect the use of any ground covering on an actual layout. Some people use felt, some use grass mats, and others paint their ground covering and then add scenic grass to make it look more realistic. So it depends on your preferences.
Do you have all that Japanese rolling stock because you're using a Japanese prototype loco? 😊
Consolidated or Consolidation?
Nice but slower is better for newbie’s. Thanks 👍
I have a BLI paragon 3 4-8-4 NYC Niagara with a dead decoder i think, you see, it ran out of control all the sudden and after I reset it, it will no longer move but will produce the sounds as normal. Think I need to get a whole new decoder for it or could this issue be caused by the circuit board that is connected to the electric motor itself?
What was the fix for it? I have a similar issue with a cab forward
Well, turns out the paragon 3 decoder in the tender went out... I had to order a new decoder which they gave me an upgrade to paragon 4. I installed the decoder myself which is easy as its just plug and play.
I grew up down the road from this. We used to always ride by on bikes, hoping that he’d be out so we could get rides! And then when you saw all the others show up with campers, you knew you could get rides all weekend. Haha. Great memories! I’ll be retiring from the Air Force in a few years and most likely will end up buying my childhood home. I hope they’re still operating so my kids and see them as well!
I enjoy watching your videos and have a question? I have a Kato 500 Type EVA that I tried to add DZ126 decoders to using your suggestions. The light board in the end cars has two LEDS a red and white flipped for polarity so one or the other is on when voltage direction is flipped. There is a 561 SMD resistor to prevent LEDs from burning out. I hooked up the orange and grey motor leads and using Decoder Pro set motor 3 voltages to 2,2,2. Using my Digitraxx DCS51 when I advance the throttle forward the white LED comes on but after a few seconds turns off and reversing the throttle the red LED comes on but also turns off. Any suggestions? Thanks, Joe
Really nice
Nice layout! I'm in Japan and collect KATO N gauge, and I'm inspired to make a similarly-sized layout for my trains.
I'm doing this on a laptop, how do I drag without a mouse? cant seem to get it to work
Great tutorial! Can Road widths be manipulated manuallly?
Please include part numbers of item used and source. Also what liquid flux are you using? This info would help a newbie.
Enjoying your vids! Old but still good for me bud.
Fun!
Great video. Lots of effort went into your presentation. I use NCE switch-kats to control my Kato turnouts and offers push button and indicator lights. I use DCC-EX now moving away from Digitrax. I like what you have done.
Looking good. Thanks for sharing. And welcome back.
Can we see more detail on the single wire connection from the switch to the DS64.
Kapton tape is used for thermal insulation. Use electrical tape for electrical insulation.
My confusion becomes, why not just buy a loco with DCC and Sound? By the time you buy the Kato and the sound/dcc unit/speaker, you are spending close to our more than maybe a BLI, or Bachmann, or similar. I guess it's a loco not offered in other brands? Any insight helpful. Pretty new at all this. In love with DCC /Sound already though. Hard to go back to boring old dc. ;) PS: I think you forgot to add smoke. LOLZ.
It depends. Many locomotives built today usually come DCC ready, which means they can take a decoder that fits their socket. DCC Sound isn't usually offered on many locomotives as it tends to drive up the price of locomotives, so some manufactures will build the DCC Sound decoders separate, but also for certain types of locomotives. DCC onboard locomotives are mozealess the midway point for both. But for locomotives like the Kato N scale Japanese locomotives, they aren't built for DCC, but because you have a DCC layout, it makes more sense to just hardwire a decoder in. Also with Broadway and Bachmann, they make decoders in house so they can sell their loco's for a premium. The good news though is that with third-party companies, you can have Sound decoders programmed with specific sounds that are for that locomotive. In the club I'm apart of, most of the locomotives with Sound use a third-party decoder with those sounds programmed in.
@@kiwiwarrior3012 Good info! Thank you. I ran my two new Bachmann dcc's together for first time. One steam, on diesel. It is so addictive! Now, I need more lolz. This is just so much more fun with dcc. Beyond me how this hobby isn't more popular! Much better than video games and the internet!
What a beautiful little model. It and the pacific in your banner are really striking.
Update: took one home about a week ago. It's absolutely astounding.
You didn't go over the other pieces in the list of roads. What do they do and how do you use them?
2nd. 😁
Thanks for the video, it helped me understand the DS64 programming with JMRI a lot more.
Did you notice wearing a shirt with No.57 on the chest for installing a decoder in an EF 57? Coincidence?
Actually, yes. I didn't even notice that until your post!
It’s a shame you didn’t have a light maybe a better camera as nothing was really visible that you were doing
Yes, I agree better lighting and a better camera would help.
Great stuff. This really helps me as really new to n scale….were the decoders expensive to purchase? Loved the set.👍😎🇦🇺
Nice. I got the HO scale one for Christmas
hows it after 2 years? Im newbie and thking to get 2nd hand T1, personally love HO, i would love to put it as display only due small house.
Best RUclips Video In The Universe. And I Love It a Lot. :-D
DON'T DELETE THIS RUclips VIDEO! :-D
This is Excellent
I Would Have To Admit, Those Awesome Japanese Steam Locomotives are Way Better Than The British Steam Locomotives. And You Know What, Everyone, I Couldn't Agree More, My RUclips-Friends. ;-D
Thanks for this informative video. Can I know if I can buy this Loksound v5 Mikado online?
It's been a while, but I think you can buy it through one of the online retailers. I believe I bought mine from Tony's Train Exchange. They might still have it, but I don't know for sure.
Thanks for the video - I acquired a Kato Grand Hikari that I need to wire a Decoder into
Also, better than British steamers.
The C56 was based off the German BR 24.
Just wondering why you wouldn’t use your digitrax throttle to control the turnout instead of the Kato switch.
If you have ever tried to control both a train and turnouts from the same controller you would know why he is still using the switch. 😃
@ I do, doesn’t seem like a hassle lol.
Informative, wish I saw this video earlier.
The Japanese countryside is always so beautiful. Looks like such a nice place to visit or live.
Japanese steam locomotives are so beautiful.
I just bought the Tomix First Car Museum 0 series, well I ordered it from Japan 🇯🇵so it hasn't arrived, I wanted to ask you what I need to activate the lights? I'm not versed in model trains, any suggestions brother?
Is this N scale? Tomix makes lighting kits for many of their trains. If you know the part number for your train set you can probably use it to Google search the proper lighting kit. "[part number] lighting kit" A site I have ordered some stuff from is Hobby Search: www.1999.co.jp/. You might be able to find it there.
@@gilshrat yeah it's n scale:the first car museum models are display only, they come with lights, and a track, but in order to turn the lights on you have to have a power source, thanks brother! I'll check out 1999 website! 🙇♂️great video!
Thank you for this!
I remember Ken and his wife. They were so nice to invite my family over and we watched and road on trains. My sone was only 3 and just loved it.
Man I wish I had atleast 1 set of those The 0 series is My favourite
